Learning to Scuba Dive

Gear Up!

Before you dive, you will need to acquire the necessary training and equipment to become certified and comfortable in your scuba diving abilities. Get to know your dive store and its employees well; because once you fall in love with scuba diving, you’ll be spending lots of time there.

Academic Training

The first step you will take in learning how to scuba dive begins in the classroom. Before you dip one toe in the water, make a trip to your local dive store and sign up for a scuba diving training course. These sessions usually occur one or two nights per week and include academic training as well as some swimming pool time to learn basic water techniques. Alternatively, you can complete the academic training via eLearning before you come to Bali, and complete the in-water sessions in Bali. Click here to start your eLearning now.

Pool Training

After completing the academic portion of your scuba diving education, sign up for pool training through your dive store. During pool training, you will become familiar with your scuba gear and how to dive in a controlled environment. You will also learn scuba diving emergency techniques, such as sharing air, and other tips for a successful scuba diving experience.

Open Water Training

Once you have mastered the art of scuba diving in the pool, you will test your skills out in the open water. Because of the importance of the scuba diving techniques learned during your pool training, it is recommended that you complete the open water training as soon as possible. After proving your abilities to a certified instructor, you will receive your scuba diving certification, complete with a picture ID, showing your newly accomplished scuba status.

Learning to Scuba Dive in Bali

It is possible to complete all of the required scuba diving education, up to the open water training, before embarking on your scuba diving trip to Bali. This may reduce costs and give you an opportunity to get your final certification in the beautiful waters of Bali.

Places to Scuba Dive in Bali

Scuba diving in Bali is a delicious treat for the senses. The clear warm water creates an ideal scuba diving experience. Best of all, it is not necessary to be a professional diver to enjoy scuba diving in Bali. These dive sites are perfect for the newly certified scuba diver, and still offer amazing sights.

-Tulamben Bay is a fantastic dive for all types of divers. This Bali scuba diving spot is located just off the beach and boasts the wreckage of a US cargo ship that sunk during WWII. Here you will find schools of friendly fish, as well plenty of beautiful coral, sponges, and gorgonia to feast your eyes on.

-Amed is another great place for scuba diving in Bali. Also located just off the beach, offers an easy dive, perfect for introductory scuba diving experiences. Despite the simplicity of this Bali scuba diving location, there are multitudes of various colorful fish and a coral reef just a 5 minute swim away.

-Pandangbi, located off the eastern coast of Bali, is the perfect place to experience an easy dive and see sharks! There is no current to contend with at the Blue Lagoon dive, and as far as scuba diving in Bali is concerned, could be considered the most amazing place to view marine life.
